Chris Collier joins RDF specialist Andusia
Chris Collier, the former commercial director of the CK Group of plastics recycling and manufacturing companies, has joined the refuse derived fuel (RDF) export firm Andusia Recovered Fuels as general manager.
Mr Collier had been responsible for trading plastics within CK Group for over five years, having joined the company in January 2011. He left the company after it was placed into administration in July – following a dip in demand for material from buyers in China (see letsrecycle.com story). Mr Collier has also previously worked for Nordic Recycling, having started his career at SCA Recycling in 1986.
Hertfordshire-based Andusia has grown rapidly in recent years – having been established in 2012 – and becoming one of the largest exporters of RDF from the UK to Europe, primarily exporting to Scandinavia and Germany. In April, the company was recognised in the Queen’s Enterprise Awards (see letsrecycle.com story).
In a statement, Andusia commented: “Chris joins us from CK group where he was previously the Group Commercial Director and was responsible for all the buying and significant amount of selling of commodities within the company. With Chris’s extensive background in recycling, we look forward to him starting with us and what attributes he will bring to Andusia.”

Sales director joins Whitham Mills to focus on overseas markets
Waste management machinery designer and manufacturer Whitham Mills, has appointed Noel Patterson as sales director.
The company claims that the appointment is a part of a ‘strategic focus’ on growing the company’s presence in key European and Middle Eastern markets.
Mr Patterson has over two decades of experience developing businesses in international markets such as Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe according to Whitham Mills.
On his appointment, Mr Patterson said: “Whitham Mills is already a remarkable business in the sector and is deeply embedded within the UK’s waste management, retail and warehousing sectors. There remain very good opportunities here but overseas markets are crying out for the expertise, ingenuity and service levels our customers are receiving.
“We have completed a number of export contracts already but we feel there is much, much more we can do. We will look at a range of overseas opportunities whether they be direct sales or via a distributor model, we have no prejudices as to how we’ll make the company grow.”
Whitham Mills’ managing director, Ben Smart, added: “On behalf of the directors, I’d like to formally welcome Noel to the company.
“Noel has an excellent track record and a clear strategic focus on how he wants to develop the export side of the business. We have a strong business with customer service at its centre and it is that service, coupled with our engineering knowhow, which sets us apart from others and enables us to deliver for our customers.”
In recent years, Whitham Mills has secured export sales to Norway, France, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

JCB’s Cox joins Reconomy
Waste outsourcing business Reconomy has recruited JCB’s former general manager for the waste and recycling sector, Chris Cox, who has joined the Telford company as head of business development.
Mr Cox has worked in the waste sector for over 12 years, having worked for companies including Greenstar, Biffa Waste Services and software provider AMCS
In his new role at Reconomy, Mr Cox will head up the Business Development Team, which is responsible for driving sales growth across sectors including house building, construction, infrastructure and commercial & industrial (C&I).
Commenting on the role, Mr Cox said: “Having previously worked in an outsourced waste management service environment, I was already familiar with the business model operated by Reconomy. Across the industry Reconomy is widely regarded as being the market leader in terms of its size, its geographic reach and the diversity of the services it can deliver. I am therefore thrilled to be here and very eager to get started.
“I believe there are many significant opportunities to grow Reconomy’s market share, particularly within sectors such as C&I, where there is a strong appetite amongst businesses to maximise the reuse and recycling of materials in order to meet their corporate social responsibility targets.”
