WRG appoints Jim Meredith as chief executive

Waste Recycling Group has appointed Jim Meredith as its new chief executive.

Mr Meredith was formerly managing director and at the Waste Services arm of Shanks as well as a Shanks Group board member. His appointment to WRG follows the company's acquisition in June 2003 by a company formed by the venture capitalists Terra Firma Capital Partners (see letsrecycle.com story).

The largest landfill operator in the UK, the WRG Group’s turnover was 302.5 million in the year ending December 2002.

Mr Meredith takes over from Nigel Sandy, who will be leaving WRG in September 2003 following a hand-over period.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Meredith said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge of developing the Waste Recycling Group at a time of great change and opportunity in the industry. It is a strong business with great potential, something that is recognised by the investment and support which has been made by Terra Firma.”

Mr Meredith is married with three children and lives in Bedfordshire.
