But this time around WRG and the councils have already consulted with the local community and believe that an energy from waste plant will be built.
Mike Snell, general manager of external affairs at WRG, told letsrecycle.com: “The previous application was turned down because it was not in keeping with the surrounding area. Our latest proposal is on a new site.
“The authorities have already gone through lots of public consultation to gauge what the public considers the best environmental options. We are confident that when the planning application is submitted it will be accepted,” he added.
Proposals
Proposals are to be put forward for a combined MRF and composting facility at Gallymoor, near Holme upon Spalding Moor, as well as the energy recovery facility at Salt End. The site at Gallymoor is already being used by WRG for waste management and Salt End is currently vacant industrial land.
The energy from waste plant is to deal with 240,000 tonnes of waste, while the MRF will take in 55,000 and the compost facility 50,000.
Consultation
WRG will now begin further consultation on plans for the new facilities, which are expected to cost around 100 million. Planning applications are expected to be submitted in the summer of 2006.
