WRAP to push high value recycled products

The wood recycling industry is set to receive more than 100,000 in a bid to improve sales of recycled wood products of a high value.

Funding from the Waste and Resources Action Programme is to be given to seven wood recyclers from across the UK.

” A quality product is of little use if the benefit message is not conveyed strongly to a target audience “
– Julia Turner, WRAP

Areas that WRAP is hoping to effect through its funding include animal bedding and landscape surfacing products.

Companies receiving the funding are Urban Forest in Northern Ireland, R Plevins and Sons in Nottinghamshire, Hadfields in Manchester, Wood Yew Waste in Devon, Tracey Timber Recycling in Scotland, Eco Composting in Dorset and Giffords Group in West Bromwich.

The companies recycle wood into wither equine bedding, pet bedding, equine surfacing, landscaping mulches or landscaping products.

Companies given the funding, which was offered to all members of the Wood Recycling Association that operate in the added-value products sector, will be provided with specific sales and marketing support through one-to-one professional consultancy.

Services will include the development if strategic marketing plans, advice on putting together and implementing a marketing communications campaign and assistance with specific elements of marketing activity such as web site development and sales training.

Julia Turner, material development manager for Wood at WRAP, said: “By providing marketing consultancy support for these wood recyclers, WRAP is aiming to give the added value products sector a substantial boost.

“It is clear that recycled wood products can provide a number of performance benefits both as animal bedding and landscape surfacing, but a quality product is of little use if that benefit message is not conveyed strongly to a target audience,” she added.
