The annual Chartered Institution of Wastes Management event hits Torbay next week (June 15 – 18), with this year's aim to get to get waste managers and waste producers to “look beyond the horizon”.
Speakers at the conference will include environment minister Elliot Morley, Marianne Klingbeil from the European Commission and Dr Martha Heitzmann of OECD.

The conference will look into the problems linked to the potential doubling of waste costs in the next couple of years because of increasing legislative pressures from Westminster and Brussels.
The CIWM is particularly looking to grow its membership among waste producers this year, and a special CIWM Producers' Day on Wednesday June 16 will be aimed at those companies.
Steve Lee, CIWM chief executive said, “The interest in our conference and exhibition is bigger than ever this year. It is being driven by ever-greater concerns for protecting people, the environment and natural resources.
“Our 'use it up, throw it out' ways can’t go on. We want businesses to perform better and have put on a free conference day to get that dialogue going. We have to do better at home too and the changes will take time. If you’re not preparing for the future for your wastes it will start to hurt – and sooner rather than later,” he said.
Over 550 waste professionals are expected to attend the conference and workshops, while more than 5,000 visitors will view the waste management products and services of 350 exhibitors at the 42,000 square-metre exhibition.
