Waste and recycling firms in north west offered 4m support

The recycling and waste management sector in the North West is in line for additional support, with the announcement of a new 4 million support programme.

Companies involved in the waste and recycling sector will be offered dedicated support through the new service.

The 3-year programme has been launched by Envirolink Northwest and is funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste fund and local authorities in the Northwest.

Envirolink's programme will focus on four key elements:

  • Stimulating research and development in waste management and recycling to develop new waste treatment and recycling technologies – as well as improving existing technologies
  • Assisting waste and recycling technology businesses with near-to-market technologies to develop demonstrations of their products
  • Promoting the capability of the Northwest's waste management, recycling and technology sector
  • Supporting the Northwest's recycling industry to develop economically sustainable markets for recycled materials and recycled-content products through a project entitled Remade Northwest

Mark Atherton, head of environment and sustainable development in the NWDA, said: “With the current rise in growth in waste management and recycling technologies, it is vital that businesses within the sector have the relevant support to address the key issues they face.
