Viridor Waste Management acquires Mac-Glass Recycling

Waste management company Viridor has acquired the Scottish glass recycling business Mac-Glass Recycling Ltd.

One of the largest independent glass reprocessors in Scotland, the Midlothian-based company had a turnover of 700,000.

The acquisition was announced today by Viridor's parent company, Pennon Group, which said the move was in-line with its strategy of expanding its waste management activities “particularly in the areas of waste treatment and materials recycling”.

Mac-Glass was acquired from owner Brian McBride, and will form part of Viridor's existing glass recycling arm, Viridor Glass Recycling, formerly known as Viridor Richardson and based in Lancashire. Viridor said the acquisition would improve profits within the first year.

Commenting on the acquisition, Viridor chief executive Colin Drummond said: “This acquisition fits very well with Viridor Waste's strategy of expanding its waste treatment and materials recycling activities.

“Mac-Glass will enhance our existing glass business bringing additional experience in the area of bottle glass recycling,” he added.
