TVS extends agreement with Dennis Eagle

TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS) has announced an extension of its 14-year aftermarket services agreement with refuse vehicle manufacturer Dennis Eagle.

TVS said it has supported Dennis Eagle’s success by supplying aftermarket services, from purchasing and storing parts, to providing next day delivery.

And, TVS has highlighted its use of in-house demand planning and forecasting system to increase the availability of parts. The company also provides technical publications and an electronic, diagrammatic parts catalogue, to help customers to accurately identify the correct parts they need based on their vehicle specification.

Martin Warington, TVS Sales and Commercial Director said: “This is great news for both parties and builds on a unique 14 year relationship based on trust, integrity and working in close partnership.”

Geoff Rigg, Aftermarket Director at Dennis Eagle commented: “Dennis Eagle is well known for its sector leading parts support and TVS play a vital role with achieving this performance.”

DCW outsources refuse vehicle maintenance

The Exeter-based waste management company, Devon Contract Waste (DCW) has outsourced the maintenance of its refuse vehicles to Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS).

DCW has a fleet consisting of 30 vehicles, including 11 refuse vehicles. Outsourcing the maintenance to RVS allows DCW to control fleet replacements more effectively, monitor driver damage and improve health and safety the company explained.

Simon Almond, Managing Director of DCW, said: “There’s a whole list of reasons why it makes sense to outsource the maintenance of our refuse vehicles. Firstly, these vehicles are very complex, expensive machines, and they require the attention of expert municipal vehicle engineers to keep them in tip-top condition. We’d rather focus on our core business – collecting, sorting and recycling waste – and improving the environment.”

FRM invests in Volvo L90H loading shovel

Forth Resource Management (FRM) has taken delivery of a Volvo L90H loading shovel for use at its Todhills composting site on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The loader has been supplied with a 3.0m³ quick attachment Hi Tip bucket with top clamp.

Operations Director Alex Dunbar said “Both the size of the machine and especially the size of the bucket are the key to handling the variety, weight and density of the materials arriving here on site.”

Commenting on FRM’s relationship with the Volvo brand, Dunbar said: “When we set up the business fourteen years ago we purchased a Volvo BM LM642 and a 4200B from an uncle of one of the business partners which had both been previously engaged on farm work. We’ve still got the machines and they’re still running but this is the first new Volvo we’ve purchased. Volvo has a strong reputation for being a quality brand and we have high expectations from the new L90H in terms of performance and reliability but additionally from a strong residual value further down the line.”

Epsom & Ewell council signs contract with SFS

Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS) has won a contract to provide 75 vehicles for Epsom & Ewell Borough council’s new weekly collection service. The collection service, called Simply Weekly Recycling is set to begin this Spring.

SFS has been providing vehicle services to the Authority for 11 years. The new 10-year contract includes the provision of 12 refuse collection vehicles, minibuses, tippers, sweepers and maintenance equipment. SFS will also continue to manage the council’s workshops and the maintenance of vehicles.

Jon Sharpe, Transport & Waste Services Manager, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council said: “We needed a new fleet to fit the new service and SFS won the tender based on a combination of quality and service. Although we are increasing the frequency of collections we are reducing our costs because we are now able to standardise the type of vehicle we use. Whereas we used to operate three different kinds of vehicle including specialist kerbside recycling vehicles, we will now have a completely multi-functional fleet. That means everyone has the same training and when a vehicle breaks down we can easily replace it with another one from the fleet.”

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, SFS, commented on the new contract: “Winning this tender is great news and we are delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with the Authority. We understand their business and, as with all of our customers, we work hard to make sure they get maximum value out of their fleet. We look forward to ensuring a smooth roll-out of their new service.”
