Urbaser acquires six Amey waste contracts  

Environmental services company Urbaser has acquired six waste management contracts from Amey, with a portfolio value of over £30 million per year.

The contracts involve waste and recycling collections, street cleansing and maintenance services for Solihull metropolitan borough,  Gloucester city , Selby district , and Eden district councils.

It also includes the management of nine Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) for Northamptonshire county council and four for Central Bedfordshire council.

The contract for Solihull will also include the management of a HWRC and a waste transfer station.

Urbaser said that the handover of these contracts will start in the first quarter of 2021 and a “large proportion of staff” will transfer over.

It comes following reports in 2019 that Amey had started the process of offloading its waste division, which also includes a number of energy from waste partnerships not included in this deal.
