The 40,000 blow-moulded Kerbside Boxes supplied to the council more than two years ago have been in constant use, yet not a single one has been returned due to breakage or defect.
The council purchased the kerbside boxes, which are made from recycled plastic, to use in its borough-wide kerbside collection scheme which initially collected waste paper, and has recently been expanded to also collect aluminium and steel cans.
The council’s client services manager, Dennis Gardner, said he was delighted with the way the boxes have stood up to the rough and tough of constant use: “We have been very pleased by the box’s performance under pressure and the fact that they still look like new in spite of regular and sustained use. The fact that we have had no breakages means that our highly successful collection scheme has not been disrupted.”
“The products are diverting waste plastics from landfill which is important from both an environmental and economic point of view. They are also helping heighten awareness of the importance of recycling and encouraging individual households to do their bit,” says Paul Abel.
