Thirty teams in draw for Waste World Cup

Thirty teams in draw for Waste World Cup

Reigning champions and event sponsors Valpak face a tough task in retaining the Waste World Cup this year after fixtures were announced for the one-day tournament.

The sixth annual, mixed gender, six-a-side football event on September 12 will see the producer responsibility scheme having to bypass Hyder Consulting, the Environmental Services Association, Wandsworth Council and Cory Environmental in the group stages to progress and defend its crown.

Elsewhere in the tournament, which is organised by letsrecycle.com and the University of Northampton, twice beaten finalists ACM Waste Management will have to contend with Severnside, Bagnall & Morris Waste Services, PPS-Recoup and Grundon if they want to make it through to the knock-out stage of the competition.

Catharine Mackay, events manager for letsrecycle.com said: “So far 30 teams have signed up for this year's tournament, which provides a fun day out and a great opportunity for the industry to let off steam.”

Taking place on the Park Campus at the University of Northampton, the tournament also features a crossbar challenge sponsored by REgenerist which was won last year by Chris Povey of SITA.
