Citiraya UK had two plants – a holding plant in Scotland and a reprocessing plant in South Wales. The Scottish site dismantled electronic equipment and sent it to Wales for reprocessing.
Following an announcement that several senior figures of parent company Citiraya in Singapore were being investigated by the authorities there, the managing director of the Scottish holding plant put the company into receivership. The Welsh site remained active as a reprocessor.
TES-AMM, a rival of Citiraya in Asia, has now decided to buy out the company's Scottish branch and continue the activities originally being carried out on the site at Irvine, North Ayrshire.
Citiraya used the facility for holding and dismantling before the materials were sent to Asia. Once the company's Welsh plant came into use the electronic equipment was sent there for reprocessing.
TES-AMM will be dismantling computer equipment on the Scottish site and selling materials into local markets.
The Company is also set to open a new plant for reprocessing waste electronics in Shanghai, China on September 22.
Gordon Cripps, of TES-AMM, said: “Essentially we will be carrying on the process which was carried out at the plant before the Citiraya facility was opened in Wales. But we will be sending the materials into Asia not Europe. This site now has nothing to do with Citiraya or its Welsh facility.”
Tracking
TES-AMM has also announced a new tracking system for its electronic waste. The company will be using technology provided by Scottish IT Services company to manage the process of disposing of end-of-life computer equipment, white goods, brown goods and other types of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Cygnet Solutions' electronic waste tracking system will be implemented at TES-AMM sites in Scotland, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

“The system helps is maximise the return for our customers, recycle and re-use as much material as possible, demonstrate compliance with legislation and discharge our duty-of-care obligations,” he added.
