UROC
UROC has announced a new non-executive board of directors with representation from small and medium sized businesses, and independent waste and resource operations across the UK.
The new members for England are John Stephens from Grundon, Jacqueline O’Donovan from O’Donovan Waste Disposal, Craig Adkins from AB Waste Disposal, Philip Liddell from Ace Liftaway, Michael Hughes from Gowing & Pursey, Anna Cawley from Cawleys, Richard Clews from Clews Recycling, Andrew Liddell from Westridge, and David Wolfenden from GBN.
For Scotland the new members are Scott Smith from A & M Smith, Paul Innes from Scotwaste
and for Wales, Matthew Roderick from Browns Waste Services.
It follows the appointment of three chairs for England Paul Needham (Enva – England), Robin Stevenson (Hamilton Waste – Scotland) and David Williams (Potter Group – Wales).
UROC founder and CEO Jenny Watts said: “We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Board who join us as this very challenging, but nonetheless exciting time, as the sector moves forward with new opportunities presented in the post Brexit era”.
The new board members will have an inaugural meeting later this month.
Ecosurety
Meanwhile, recycling compliance scheme Ecosurety has appointed Will Ghali as its next chief executive.
Mr Ghali joined Ecosurety this month, taking over from previous CEO, James Piper, who is leaving to go travelling. The company said that the pair will work side by side until July 2021 to ensure a smooth transition.
According to Ecosurety, he “brings extensive strategy, brand, digital, e-commerce and marketing experience to the company”, and previously worked at director and board level across the drinks, fashion, retail and B2B sectors.
Mr Ghali said: “I am delighted to be joining a great business and a wonderful team of highly talented people who care passionately about making an impact and enabling change for good. I am excited about joining the business at a time when Extended Producer Responsibility is around the corner, so I can help the team and our members to prepare for this change in the industry”.
RDF Industry Group
The RDF Industry group has re-elected Robert Corijn for a fourth term as chair of the group , with Andy Jones also reprising his role as vice chair for 2021.
Mr Corijn is marketing manager for Dutch waste management company Attero B.V., and over the last three years has been “guiding the Group to overcome the obstacles that the RDF industry has encountered”.
Mr Corijn said: “Since first taking up the role of Chair of the RDF Industry Group in 2018, there have been significant challenges that have affected the RDF industry, and 2020 was no different, having seen the roll-out of the Dutch import tax and the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also seeing some countries developing carbon taxes on waste treatment or other import restrictions. The RDF Industry Group is a strong believer in European cooperation – when we all work together, Europe can move much more waste up the waste hierarchy”.
