There was uncertainty surrounding whether Dr Davies would remain as ESA chairman following his resignation as chief executive of hazardous waste firm Augean, with immediate effect on Monday (16 October). Augean is a member company of the ESA.

Jim Meredith, currently the non-executive chairman of the Augean group, has expanded his role to that of executive chairman at Augean and will lead the business through its ongoing re-structuring and cost reduction programmes, the group said.
Statement
In a short statement today, the ESA said: “Dr Stewart Davies will remain as chairman of the ESA.”
The ESA represents most of the large waste management companies across the UK and a number of smaller businesses, as well as having service members.
Dr Davies has been in post at the ESA for nearly a year and is due to serve two years as chairman. In the wake of his election last November, he spoke of how the ESA would need to be ‘agile’ in response to Brexit.
He also said that the waste industry will need to push to highlight the ‘productivity benefits’ available to the UK economy through investment in waste infrastructure. At the time Dr Davies also noted that he would seek to engage with government on how the industry can play a ‘constructive role’ in economic growth.
