Smart Solutions announces ‘record’ turnover

Smart Solutions warned that the shortage is across the board, rather than just drivers

Waste outsource provider Smart Solutions has announced a “record-breaking” turnover of £82 million for the last financial year.

The Newport-based firm, which provides around 2,500 employees for work within the waste and recycling sector each week, has seen its annual income rise by over 41% compared to 2013/14.

The turnover stands as the company’s single largest volume growth since it was founded in 2007.

Smart Solutions has this year invested in two new divisions, and completed its first multi-million pound acquisition, buying Leeds and Leicester-based specialist recruitment business Right Direction UK.

As well as launching new offices in Chester, Leicester and Norwich, the firm’s training division has doubled its workforce, taking it to 40 members of staff. This has coincided with a turnover increase of 14% to £2.1 million.

The turnover posting comes two years into Smart Solutions’ ‘five-year plan’ to expand the company, with an aim to increase annual turnover to more than £100 million.

Staff

The 2015/16 year has started at a “fast pace” according to chief executive Nathan Bowles, with 18 new members of staff taken on board during September.

Mr Bowles said: “This year, we have taken a major step forward in establishing ourselves as one of the market leaders in outsourced services as seen by the increase in our workforce and the expansion of the sectors we’re now working in. There has been strong growth in our mature industrial and waste recycling sectors but, more encouragingly, we are seeing rapid growth in our new target sectors of commercial, building services, facilities management and logistics.

“This has been supported by the completion of a long-term project to develop an innovative software solution, which we feel is a game-changer for our sector. Our new integrated resource management tool, Worksite, has seen investment of more than £500,000 into the development of this unique IT system.”

Labour

He added: “Worksite controls the management, monitoring, verification, control, supply and planning of labour to our clients. This enables us to produce up-to-the-minute financial data, production data as well as compliance and training reports. This system has been a hugely successful resource to both our existing and new clients, particularly in major infrastructure projects where we can now deliver a complete master vendor solution.”
