SITA UK offers new waste education pack for schools

Waste management firm SITA UK has produced a new education pack to highlight waste issues for school children at Key Stages 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum.

The pack, aimed at children aged seven to 14, is written in line with the National Curriculum in England, Scotland and Wales, and includes a teacher's guide, poster and activity sheets.

The pack is accompanied by a website that provides activity sheets available for downloading as well as animated waste journeys and an interactive game for parents, teachers and children.

SITA UK said the education pack has been produced following extensive research with teachers and education experts. The company said the materials intend to encourage a “sense of responsibility for the natural environment while considering the impact that humans have on its resources”.

Kevan Sproul, human resources and marketing services director at SITA UK, said: “We realise that children are bombarded with messages about saving the environment. However, we hope that our new pack will provide a practical and innovative way of presenting the issues around reducing, re-using and recycling our waste.

“The experiences gained by professionals in the education industry have really helped us to develop the pack and website. We hope that both children and adults alike see this new pack and website as a real resource for learning and providing information about our industry,” Mr Sproul added.
