Shanks claims victory in Lincolnshire cricket match

In a battle against the rain as much as the bowlers, a keenly-contested cricket match in Lincolnshire last week saw Shanks Waste Solutions clinch victory against an all star team from letsrecycle.com and newenergyfocus.com.

The evening match, on July 31 2008, in a 20/20 tie saw Shanks run up an impressive 133 for 4 at the Fulbeck Cricket Club near Grantham. letsrecycle.com, having endured a soaking in the outfield, went into bat and recorded 98 all out.

For Shanks, director of organics Stephen Wise took three wickets and made 20 runs to win the man of the match award, ahead of marketing manager Austin Lees, who also took three wickets.

letsrecycle.com's team was led by managing director Steve Dickinson. He was responsible for two dismissals including that of Shanks materials director Paul Dumpleton who later achieved revenge with a deft low catch to catch Steve Dickinson out for 16.

Shanks' winning performance was achieved despite an agile performance from wicket keeper Tom Joannou, letsrecycle.com's commercial director, who is normally to be found performing wonders in goal for London five-a-side champions Holloway Galaxy.

letsrecycle.com's performance was strengthened with the guest appearance of the young Richard Eminton who scored an unbeaten 47 – much to the relief of the team.

Nigel Bewsher, director of letsrecruit.com, bravely batted twice, second time as number 11 for letsrecycle.com, and added a few useful runs after having departed earlier as the opening batsmen due to an unfortunate run-out with partner Garry Wood.

Editor Steve Eminton was relieved to survive two overs without runs or injury, largely due to the generosity of umpire Robin Stevenson, Shanks sales and marketing director, and wicket keeper Paul Clements, the company's UK sales manager who put in a strong all-round performance.

Robin Stevenson's son Jake, a youth player for Nottinghamshire, produced a restrained yet fast and accurate bowling display to keep letsrecycle.com's score down.

Discussion of the match and waste policy issues followed at the Red Lion in nearby Caythorpe.
