Shanks appoint Dumpleton to materials post

Waste management company Shanks has announced the appointment of Paul Dumpleton to the new position of director of materials management.

Mr Dumpleton joined the company at its Milton Keynes office last week from another waste firm – SITA – where he held the post of general manager for recycling. Prior to this he held a number of posts in the recycling and paper sector including at SCA Recycling. At Shanks he will again be working with Ian Goodfellow, a former managing director of SITA, who is now md of Shanks.

“One of Paul's initial tasks will be to review our development of recycling services and new facilities in England and Scotland in line with our commitment to diversion from landfill,” said Gerard Reynolds, Shanks sales and marketing director.

Mr Dumpleton said: “I am delighted to have joined the board of Shanks and look forward to developing the materials side of the company. I am joining at an exciting pahse in the company’s growth, especially with the growth and development of PFI.”

A statement from Shanks explained that Mr Dumpleton’s role will be “to maximise the potential of existing recycling locations and develop new facilities across the UK in line with Shanks commitment to recycling and diversion from landfill.” In addition, he will be responsible for the management of all recycled material and developing new and existing recyclate markets.

Shanks faces a number of challenges in developing its local authority work in East London and elsewhere. The company is also a contender for the PFI contract for Gloucestershire in competition with Cory Environmental.
