Waste and recycling collections in Coventry are suspended today (20 January) as the council looks to support its crew. Collections will resume on 24 January, the council says.
In a statement, the council said their thoughts were with the worker’s family and friends and they were co-operating with the police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
A spokesperson for the HSE told letsrecycle.com they were aware of the incident and were supporting the police with their investigation.
Guild Road
The West Midlands Ambulance Service told letsrecycle.com they were called to an incident involving a refuse collection lorry on Guild Road, Coventry, just before 10am.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from the Air Ambulance Service attended the scene, along with police and the fire service, the ambulance service says.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews found a man in a critical condition. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and was confirmed deceased on scene.”
West Midlands Police told letsrecycle.com they were called to Guild Road shortly after 10am. A man working as a refuse collector was confirmed dead at the scene, the police say.
A police spokesperson said: “Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this deeply distressing time.”
