Coventry city council says one of their senior in-house refuse workers tragically lost his life while undertaking his duties on 19 January.

Waste and recycling collections in Coventry are suspended today (20 January) as the council looks to support its crew. Collections will resume on 24 January, the council says.

In a statement, the council said their thoughts were with the worker’s family and friends and they were co-operating with the police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

A spokesperson for the HSE told letsrecycle.com they were aware of the incident and were supporting the police with their investigation.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews found a man in a critical condition. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and was confirmed deceased on scene.”
