The SUEZ team formed part of a delegation of emergency service staff and operations volunteers who responded to the flooding last month.
Prince Charles met the crews at Fishlake, near Doncaster during his visit – the village was one of the worst places affected by the November floods.
SUEZ – which manages Doncaster’s municipal waste and recycling service – assisted with the clean up operation after ‘biblical’ levels of rainfall fell on the area. Over a six week period, scores of SUEZ staff working with more than 90 refuse collection vehicles and 80 ‘roro’ skips helped with the clean-up.
SUEZ contract general manager for Doncaster, Victoria Crabtree said: “It was great for the crews to be recognised today during the visit by HRH Prince Charles. We talked about how we manage Doncaster’s waste and recycling service, and also how the town had been flooded in 2007 – he quipped that we should be ‘old hands’ then!”
Ms Crabtree added: “I’m really proud of all the hard work the SUEZ team in Doncaster has put in over the last six weeks – I hope everyone has a well-earned Christmas rest.”
Collections
Household recycling and waste collections were impacted in Doncaster and Calderdale in mid-November as a result of extremely heavy rainfall in these areas.
In Doncaster, despite temporarily losing access to both transfer stations due to the floods, SUEZ said that its teams responsible for household collections were “quickly able to get the service up and running, working weekends and extended hours to make up for lost collection time”.
