Recycling Lives wins Sellafield metals contract

Waste and recycling company, Recycling Lives, has won a contract to recycle metal from the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria.

Recycling Lives is to open two new sites in the county to facilitate the contract with nuclear decommissioning company Sellafield Ltd, which it said will also provide jobs and training opportunities.

The company will also set up a food distribution charity with centres throughout Cumbria. This follows the ‘successes’ of a similar community programme delivered throughout Lancashire.

‘Excited’

A scrap buying and processing site will be opened in the Workington area – adding to five Recycling Lives sites across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the Midlands. The facility will be open to the public and other businesses from September.

Martin Chown, supply chain director for Sellafield Ltd said: “We want to ensure our local communities benefit from the money we spend and we do this by insisting that companies that win work with us invest to support local growth.

“I’m excited by the plans Recycling Lives has to create jobs and support disadvantaged people in west Cumbria.

“It demonstrates the unique power of Sellafield Ltd to attract new businesses to the area
