Recycling Lives wins Sellafield metals contract

Recycling Lives is to open two new sites in the county to facilitate the contract with nuclear decommissioning company Sellafield Ltd, which it said will also provide jobs and training opportunities.

The company will also set up a food distribution charity with centres throughout Cumbria. This follows the ‘successes’ of a similar community programme delivered throughout Lancashire.

‘Excited’

A scrap buying and processing site will be opened in the Workington area – adding to five Recycling Lives sites across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the Midlands. The facility will be open to the public and other businesses from September.

William Fletcher, Recycling Lives managing director, said: “We are pleased to have been chosen as the preferred contractor for scrap metal collection and processing from Sellafield Ltd. We’re really excited to be able to use this contract to create social value across Cumbria.”

Recycling Lives food redistribution service operates on behalf of national organisation, Fareshare.

In 2013 founder and chief executive of Recycling Lives Steve Jackson, was given an OBE for services to employment and the community in Lancashire. (See letsrecycle.com story)

The contract with Sellafield Ltd was previously held by Workington-based scrap metal merchants All Vehicle Salvage Ltd.
