The funding, for the Enhance business support programme run by London Remade and the London Community Recycling Network, could also see 20 new recycling businesses set up and 200 new jobs created according to the LDA.

The Enhance programme has received 925,000 for its training schemes, which it intends to offer to larger companies as well as the SMEs and social enterprises already targeted.
On top of the revenue grant, Enhance is managing a 2 million capital fund from the LDA to be used developing the capital's recycling supply chain infrastructure.

Helen Keenan, director of product development at the LDA, said: “We recognise the importance of providing support to the sector to ensure that in the future London is able to manage its own waste.”
The new funding for enhance came following the 1.8 million grant given in 2005. Ms Keenan said: “In the first 18 months, enhance helped grow over 170 'green' businesses. We're hoping the service will create another 20 new businesses and 200 jobs in London over the next year.”

London Remade is hoping its funding will draw new companies to locate recycling operations in the capital to take advantage of the materials arising as waste in London.

Any company that can contribute to the city's economy and environment through recycling, reprocessing or remanufacturing operations will be able to apply for assistance through the Enhance website.
