Recycling consistency plan ‘not mandatory’

Recycling consistency plan ‘not mandatory’

VIDEO REPORT: The recycling collection consistency framework is ‘not a mandate about telling local authorities what to do’, WRAP’s chief executive Marcus Gover has said.

Speaking to letsrecycle.com following the launch of the framework at the RWM conference and exhibition in Birmingham yesterday (see letsrecycle.com story), Mr Gover, alongside his colleague Linda Crichton, stressed that the document would seek to spread best practice on recycling and waste collections amongst local authorities.

Mr Gover added that the framework, and resulting work to encourage harmonisation would not focus solely on local authorities and would also seek to encourage better labelling of products by manufacturers and retailers.

Developed following intervention by former resources minister Rory Stewart, Mr Gover reassured that the consistency framework does have the support of newly-appointed Defra minister Therese Coffey, despite the minister having yet to back the document.
