Recresco to expand mixed glass sorting capacity

Opportunities for more councils to collect their glass mixed look set to grow, under expansion plans revealed by glass collectors Recresco.

The company has said such is the success of its Ellesmere Port colour-sorting plant in Cheshire, new machinery is now on order to double its throughput of fully-mixed glass to more than 4,000 tonnes each week.

And, as a new letsrecycle.com feature details, the company said it is also actively seeking to establish another entire colour-sorting operation of a similar scale to the Ellesmere Port site by the end of the year.

The company is yet to decide where in the UK such a facility would be located, but believe it could act as a hub to establish more local authority collections concentrating on fully mixed green, clear and brown glass.

“We've got to go mixed for local authorities to collect efficiently,” said Recresco's area manager, Matthew Demmon.
