P&O Closed Loop Logistics granted permission for its first fridge plant

P&O; Closed Loop Logistics has been granted planning permission for a 2 million first fridge reprocessing plant in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees.

This will be the first plant for the company, which is a wholly owned division of P&O; Trans European Limited and part of the P&O; group of companies. Located in Billingham, the new plant is expected to be up and running by the end of the year using German technology.

The plant has been designed to cater for the forthcoming European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive as well as the Ozone Depleting Substances legislation already in effect.

“We are offering the only completely sustainable solution to address both ODS legislation and the WEEE Directive,” claimed P&O; Closed Loop Logistics director Tim Peet. “No other company can provide such a comprehensive, scalable solution that brings together all the affected parties and really does close the recycling loop.”

The company is now finalising a number of local authority contracts from around the country to feed their new plant, which will process up to 60 fridges and freezers an hour.
