PCA director dies after long illness

Cliff Davis-Coleman, director of the Public Contractors Association, died this week after a long illness at the age of 45.

Mr Davis-Coleman founded CDC Public Affairs in 1987 and later set up the Public Contractors Association as well as publishing the Contracts Handbook.

With a background in journalism, including work on Municipal Journal, ITN and the Daily Telegraph, he felt a more direct approach to guiding and assisting companies through the legislative maze was required.

This approach was offered through the association, which represented a number of large and small waste management companies as well as businesses operating in the local government sector.

Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, said: “Cliff was a champion of transparency and fair play in the relationship between local authorities and contractors, following implementation of compulsory competitive tendering. He played an influential role, often behind the scenes, in helping businesses to better understand the work of councils.

“He was well-respected in the sector and beyond for his professionalism, integrity and steadfastness in everything he did,” Mr Eminton added.

Mr Davis-Coleman, who had cancer for the last six years, leaves a wife, Fiona, and sons William, 11, and Tom, 8.

The funeral will be held on 1 June at 1.00pm at All Saints Church, Church Gate, Fulham, London SW6 3LG. Donations to Princess Alice Hospice, West End Lane, Esher, KT10 8NA on behalf of Cliff Davis-Coleman.
