Planning permission for the development is to be sought shortly from Derbyshire County Council and the plans are for the site to handle industrial and commercial waste.
A spokesman for the company said: “The Killamarsh development with deal with non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, recycling materials such as cardboard, plastic wrapping and wood. In line with the company’s environment-friendly policy, an incinerator chimney will be taken down and an extensive tree planting programme will take place.”
To be known as the Onyx Norwood Recycling Centre, the centre will have a workforce of about 38 people.
Gerald Owen, Onyx planning manager, said: “We as a country have to do something about the increasing burden of waste disposal, which we are all responsible for creating in our working lives. This new recycling facility will help to play a part in reducing our dependent on landfill and help the local authority achieve its recycling targets.
