The Agency said today that if the company, which is based in Oldham, continues to fail to meet requests for “crucial additional information”, it could also face criminal charges, initially amounting to 5,000 in addition to removing the fridges.
An Environment Agency spokesman explained: “Waste fridges can be stored pending licence applications being determined, but only if the application is in order and progressing satisfactorily.”
Area environment protection manager Keith Ashcroft said: “Serving these notices is a first step and the Environment Agency is keeping options open. Whether we enforce them will depend on satisfactory progress being made by Britannia on its licence applications.”
