Next CIWM Junior Vice President announced

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has announced its next Junior Vice President.

Marcus Gover, CIWM

Marcus Gover will take over the role from current Junior Vice President Liz Parkes MBE at the formal inauguration in June.

The ceremony will see Vicki Hughes assume the position of President, while Parkes will become Senior Vice President.

Marcus Gover said: “It is an honour to be elected to the CIWM Presidential Team.

“Having led international business and sustainability initiatives for over 30 years, I have seen how essential cross-sector collaboration is to achieving total systems change.

“I look forward to contributing my experience in global policy and technical services to help ensure CIWM remains at the forefront of the transition toward a sustainable circular economy.”

Gover was most recently the Director of the Minderoo Foundation’s Plastics Initiative.

He led teams across Australia, Asia, and Europe dedicated to tackling plastic pollution.

Prior to this, Gover worked at WRAP for almost 16 years, including seven as CEO, where his work focused on circular product and food systems.

His earlier experience spanned the resource sector, from early-stage renewable energy start-ups to the management of global technical service businesses.

CIWM’s Director of Policy, Communications, and External Affairs, Dan Cooke, also commented: “We are delighted to welcome Marcus to the Presidential Team.

“Through his service as a Trustee on our board and his contributions to the CIWM Policy & Innovation Forum, he is already a highly valued part of the organisation’s governance.

“Marcus’s background as a scientist and his extensive experience in environmental leadership add further depth to our presidential team.”

Having left the Minderoo Foundation in 2024, Gover currently holds consulting and non-executive roles.

He is a member of the Unilever Sustainability Advisory Council, a supervisory board member of Circle Economy and Enviu in the Netherlands, a non-executive director of US sustainability non-profit Delterra, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Portsmouth’s Revolution Plastics Institute.

CIWM Presidential Team

Current President Dr David Greenfield will remain on the Presidential Team as Immediate Past President until June 2027.

Tim Walker will step down as Immediate Past President and will return to the Trustee Board to complete his previous term.

At the ceremony in June this year, the CIWM will also welcome Emma Copley as the new Early Careers President, succeeding Charlotte Davies.

Copley is currently a Senior Waste Consultant at WSP where she has worked since 2022.
