‘Re-use roadshow’ initiative launched in Lancashire

Lancashire county council has launched a series of ‘Reuse Roadshows’ to encourage reuse in the area.

The first roadshow will be taking place from 10-16:00 at Garstang’s Reuse and Recycling Centre on 19 August

The roadshows are a series of workshops highlighting the benefits of re-using, buying second-hand and donating at Lancashire county council’s reuse shops in Garstang, Preston, and Burnley recycling centres.

County councillor Shaun Turner, cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “Our reuse shops are a fantastic addition to our recycling centres, as they’re a great way of finding hidden gems at affordable prices. Instead of going to waste, these items can be put to great ‘reuse’ in another home.

“As well as putting the spotlight on our shops, our roadshows will highlight the community spirit and benefits of second-hand shopping. Donating your pre-loved items also supports our local services in helping families in need.

“If you’re in the Garstang area at the weekend, why not stop by to see what our reuse shops have on offer?”

Tilbury Riverside Projects picnic event sponsored by EMR

European Metals Recycling (EMR) has sponsored Tilbury’s picnic in the park for the second consecutive year and donated £2,000 to the Tilbury Riverside Project.

The project was established by Peter Hewitt in 1992 and hosts various events including picnic in the park to promote the cultural rejuvenation of the area.

This contribution from EMR marked the third instance of their support for the Tilbury event, having provided a cumulative sum of £6,000 over the preceding years.

Darrell Rose, general manager at EMR Tilbury, said: “At EMR, we firmly believe in the power of community engagement and the positive influence it can have on people’s lives. We were delighted to be able to continue to support Annie and the amazing team at Tilbury Riverside Project and contribute to ‘Tilbury’s Picnic in the Park’ once again.

“This annual event not only fosters a sense of togetherness, but also enhances the wellbeing of residents, as well as providing an economic boost to local businesses, which is so important.”
