Recoup finds crisp packet from 1990s

Recoup’s team have announced that it has recovered a crisp packet from 1997. This discovery is part of the ongoing efforts under Recoup’s Litter Composition and Pathways Project.

Funded by Recoup members McDonald’s and Ocado Retail, the project aims to analyse and provide evidence on the composition of litter.

Laura Hutchings, projects & data manager at Recoup, said “It has been really interesting to see the variety of both new and legacy litter we have been collecting from each litter pick. There is an obvious need for highly thought-out, targeted interventions for the prevention of litter, and this project will provide key data and insights to help achieve this.”

CSG hires 50th employee

Waste management company, CSG, has celebrated hiring its 50th member of staff this week.

CSG announced the appointment of an engineering manager to reduce third-party maintenance costs and the hiring of a new operator to work within the treatment plant.

Regional business manager, Craig Dufferwiel, said: “The transformation of the business since the takeover has been dramatic and a privilege to be part of. After stabilising the business in the first couple of years, we initially set ourselves a target of £1 million turnover, so to reach a profit of £1.5 million last year was a fantastic achievement.

“Increasing our number of staff was also a key driver and to bring in our 50th full-time equivalent employee is a significant milestone. This has included the employment of seven apprentices through training schemes and into skilled jobs. We have further plans for growth as we continue to offer the industrial waste disposal services that are much needed in the North East.”

Green Party leader joins BWRP birthday celebrations

Bristol Wood Recycling Project (BWRP) was joined by Carla Denyer to celebrate its 20th birthday.

The BWRP is a self-financing co-operative that generates income through the sales of re-used and locally sourced timber, workshop products, and a waste wood collection service for construction companies and other waste producers.

Carla Denyer, Green Party leader, said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to join in the celebrations of Bristol Wood Recycling Project’s 20th birthday. Bristol’s identity as a green city made up of vibrant businesses and social, environmental and cultural projects is exemplified by BWRP.

“Doing good for people and planet, creating meaningful, low-carbon employment, and working cooperatively for a vibrant and regenerative economy; BWRP is exemplary of what businesses can and should be striving towards. It is a business not just of today, but of the future.

“BWRP has been operating and thriving under this model for 20 years. It demonstrates that the Green economy here in Bristol and beyond is here to stay, and sets a model that so many others can and will follow.”

Brown Recycling launch skip design project

Brown Recycling have announced the launch of a sustainable art project – the Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge, in partnership with the art organisation, Short Supply.

Brown Recycling will be providing 10 refurbished skips for 10 artists to design.

The selected artists will create their designs at Brown Recycling’s premises in August, with the completed skips being showcased at a Skip Art Challenge event in Stoke in early September.

All proceeds from the Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge will be donated to Dougie Mac Hospice.

Mitch Brown, co-managing director at Brown Recycling, said: “We’re excited to be launching the Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge, and to be commissioning 10 talented artists to transform our skips with their creative designs. With the finished skips going into our fleet, they will bring some colour and fun to our customers across Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

“It’s also great to be able to support Dougie Mac in the process. They do such great work for those with life limiting conditions and we are always happy to do our bit to help their fundraising.”
