Mulligan moves to Remondis
Waste processing business, Remondis UK, has appointed Mike Mulligan to the new role of account manager for chemical and hazardous waste. He joins Remondis after 12 years in the chemical and hazardous waste sectors, with businesses including PHS, Augean and Shanks.
Remondis said the appointment comes as it looks to expand the number of disposal channels it is able to offer customers. A spokesman noted: “Currently, Remondis is one of the only organisations in the UK to offer an R Code (recovery) for hazardous waste, via its Trans Frontier Shipment (TFS) licence to a network of plants across Europe.
“However, in line with the long-term circular economy approach of the UK government, Mike Mulligan will be working to develop a complementary business stream to keep the value of certain wastes within the UK market and develop reciprocal relationships with other waste management organisations.”
Phil Thomas, national sales manager at Remondis UK, adds: “We’re delighted to welcome Mike to the Remondis team. He has such relevant experience and great connections throughout the waste industry. We have already seen some really positive results in his first few weeks and look forward to announcing new solutions for our customers in due course.”

Redmayne joins ERP UK
John Redmayne has joined the compliance scheme EPR UK as general manager.
Mr Redmayne previously ran his own consultancy service and prior to this was executive director of Hampshire’s Project Integra from 2008 to 2012. ERP UK – the European Recycling Platform – is a pan-European producer responsibility compliance scheme.
Scott Butler, regional director of ERP for the UK and Ireland, said that Mr Redmayne joins ERP UK “as the organisation looks to develop its business and service offer across WEEE, batteries and packaging”. He added: “John brings over 20 years of experience from various roles covering compliance, environmental services and waste management.”
Mr Butler added that with the appointment of Mr Redmayne, he would be spending more time on developing ERP’s EuropePlus services and group strategy while still supporting the UK and Ireland teams.

Birmingham move for Thomas
Recyclables trading business Visy Recycling Europe has appointed Karen Thomas (nee Newell) as trading manager for the UK and she will based in the company’s Birmingham office.
Mrs Thomas, who joined the company this week, previously spent almost three years with Aylesford Newsprint as area manager and also has other experience of the recycling sector having worked for Saica Natur and SCA Recycling.
Mrs Thomas told letsrecycle.com: “I am very pleased to have joined Visy. The majority of my work will still be fibre-based although we trade other materials including plastics.” She added: “As I live in the West Midlands, having a more local element to my job is also important.”
Visy is a privately owned packaging and resource recovery company, with more than 120 sites across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam and trading offices across Asia, Europe and the USA.

International sales manager for Taylor
Worcester steel container manufacturer, Taylor, is continuing to invest in its export programme with the appointment of Bastien Wacogne to the role of international sales manager.
Mr Wacogne, who has left the oil and gas sector to join Taylor, is French and also speaks German and Portuguese, which, said the firm, will enable it to target previously un-entered markets worldwide.
The announcement is made just as Taylor has secured a 4,200-container project in the Middle East. The export team, headed up by Julian Gaylor, is also about to embark on a research and development project for the City of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
Mr Wacogne said: “Whilst Taylor was once a family firm with its roots firmly in Worcestershire, it is now on the cusp of becoming a global company. Attitudes to waste collection are changing overseas; this, combined with Taylor’s ‘made in Britain’ badge, means that the opportunities are limitless and I’m delighted to be playing a key role in helping Taylor realise this.”
Responsible for developing the company’s network of export agents, which currently span the Middle East, Australia, Brazil, Africa and South East Asia, Mr Wacogne will also work closely with Mr Gaylor to build a UK-based international sales team.

Moore joins UNTHA UK as sales manager
Industrial shredding specialist UNTHA UK has further strengthened its team with the recruitment of a new sales manager, Gary Moore, who joins the company from Industrial Shredding Systems (ISS).
A spokesman for UNTHA UK said: “With more than 25 years’ industry experience spanning the design, sales and supply of turnkey recycling and waste management solutions, he will quickly become a valuable asset within the growing UNTHA UK business.”
Mr Moore will support sales director Marcus Brew with the development of RDF and SRF market opportunities, particularly in the South of England. UNTHA said it is becoming increasingly involved in new projects in this sector, following the launch of the XR waste shredder in September 2014.
“Having held various engineering, project management, sales and servicing roles – in the UK and overseas, Gary’s extensive industry insight will really complement the expertise we already have within the team,” said UNTHA UK’s managing director Chris Oldfield.

Fairport chooses Fernando for sales post
Commercial waste container services provider, Fairport Containers, is expanding its services with the appointment of Chaya Fernando as sales and online account manager.
Ms Fernando will be one of the main sales contacts for many of Fairport Containers’ key accounts and will focus on driving sales of waste containers, recycling banks, lids and spare parts through the firm’s online store.
Previously, Chaya worked for several years as an account manager for an online business and her experience will help to provide essential support to all of Fairport Containers’ clients.
Managing director, Steve Collinson, added: “Chaya’s skills will bring a new dimension to our offering as a business and we are really pleased to welcome her on board.”

Flounders leaves Eco for Tamar
Charlie Flounders has joined Tamar Energy as commercial manager for feedstocks. Prior to her new job, Ms Flounders was working with Eco Plastics which went into administration late last year.
Miss Flounders has substantial experience in the recycling and waste sector having worked for compliance scheme Valpak, consultancy LRS and plastics recycling firm J&A Young.
Tamar Energy is a renewable energy business focusing on anaerobic digestion and offering a range of composting services.
Director of operations, feedstock & Tamar Organics, Mat Stewart, said: “Charlie is joining us as we ramp up for our fifth anaerobic digestion plant becoming operational later this year. Her exceptional experience in maximising resource management will be an asset for both Tamar Energy and our clients, and I’m delighted to have Charlie on board.” .
