London Remade has 19 million to expand its market development programme

London Remade has 19 million to deliver a four-year programme to find markets for tyres, plastics, waste electrical and electronic equipment and ozone depleting substances (ODS) from fridges.

The funding is part of London Remade's Thames Gateway project which has received capital from the Mayor of London through the government's single regeneration budget and from other public and private sector partners.

London Remade hopes to build on the success of its existing eco-industrial sites that have been set up for organics, glass and paper and wants to set up similar sites which will deal with tyres, plastics, waste electrical and electronic equipment and ODS foam.

London Remade said that it is responding to market opportunities created by forthcoming legislation and the organisation is looking for companies who will work in partnership to develop and operate reprocessing facilities.

As with London Remade's other projects the organisation hopes that the new eco-industrial sites will promote new markets and secondary industries based on the re-engineering of recycled materials.

Ben Saunders, of London Remade, said: “We are looking to develop the models that we have established with glass and organics. The eco-industry sites are a response to market opportunities. The projects will look at diverting waste from landfill by reprocessing and will look at end user applications and markets. We have capital are we are looking for expressions of interest from companies in the area who could set up reprocessing facilities.”
