London recycling firms offered consultancy support service

Recycling companies in London are being offered a new manufacturing support service from the city's Manufacturing Advisory Service.

Funded by the London Development Agency, the service will allow companies making products out of recycled materials to think more strategically about their business and plan ahead to keep up with global competition.

The service is being supported by the Department of Trade and Industry.

David Crowfoot, head of operations for the London MAS, said the new service focussed on a “Strategy for Success” programme for forward-looking manufacturers. It would see companies given a free assessment and evaluation of all aspects of their business, before being provided with a plan of action to help towards “long term sustainability and growth”.

Compete
Mr Crowfoot explained: “We want to turn manufacturing trends on their head. Those in London's recycling industry may not be able to compete on price, but they can offer quality, service and anticipate and meet demand.”

“Our Strategy for Success programme will help them look at all areas of their business – everything from their people and the products they make – to supply chain, customers, markets, operational performance and the potential for growth,” Mr Crowfoot said.
