The company held the reception on the cruise ship “The Miyuki Maru” on Friday afternoon. The journey took guests down the Thames to the Thames barrier and back up again.
” This event is simply about giving something back to the companies and the people we have been working with for the last 20 years “
– Lawrence Barry, LMB
As well as food and music the event included presentations from company owner Lawrence Barry, Adam Read of Hyder Consulting and Mr Barry's daughter Michelle and son Ross.
Mr Barry said: “This event is simply about giving something back to the companies and the people we have been working with for the last 20 years. We have invited near enough everyone that we have done business with in these last 20 years in order to say thank you for the work and support they have given us.”
LMB started life in 1985 as a small textile sorting factory which operated from underneath a road arch in Caxton Street, Canning Town.
When it first opened its doors the company had three members of staff, Lawrence Barry and his wife Joy – who owned the company – and Irene Hawkes. Ms Hawkes is still a member of the team today and her sister, Mavis Christian, also works for the company.
Today the company employs a team of over 170 across four sites in Canning Town and sorts over 180 tonnes of textile for reuse and recycling each week.
Mr Barry said that the day had been a huge success and he was considering holding a similar event next year.
