JWT is a waste management firm based in Atherton, Greater Manchester which offers services such as skip hire and waste and recycling collections to businesses in the area. It employs 45 people and handles approximately 70,000 tonnes of waste every year.

Under the deal JWTs materials recycling facility (MRF) and fleet of 29 vehicles will be integrated into Viridors operations in the region.
Commenting on the acquisition, Colin Drummond, chief executive of Viridor, said: The acquisition of JWT provides excellent synergies with Viridor’s existing activities in Manchester and across the North West. It complements other recent acquisitions in the region and Viridor’s development of the UK’s largest waste fired Combined Heat and Power facility at Runcorn, the first phase of which will be operational in 2013. The acquisition is expected to be earnings enhancing in its first full year.
John Thomasson from JWT Waste Services, added: I am delighted that Viridor has been able to secure the acquisition of JWT. This is good news for our employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders in the business, and will allow the business to grow.
Acquisition
The acquisition adds to Viridors growing commercial services in the area following its purchase of JWS Churngold Limited in November 2011 which was bought for 14.25 million (see letsrecycle.com story).
Other acquisitions in the area include: Storm Recycling in Winsford in June 2011; Swinnerton Environmental in January 2011; and, Adapt Recycling in December 2010.
Contracts
Viridor offers to businesses, regional director John Viviani said: We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and to providing existing and new customers with a continued high quality service.
The acquisition continues our investment in essential recycling and renewable energy services in the region, such as the construction of the Runcorn EfW facility alongside our advanced recycling facilities, helps us to meet the needs of local businesses which are looking to recycle more and to minimise the amount of waste they send to landfill.
Viridor already offers waste and recycling collection services to a number of large businesses in the area including Kelloggs and Manchester United football club.
In addition, it operates the waste treatment contract with the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. The 3.8 billion, 25-year PFI contract was signed in April 2009 (see letsrecycle.com story).
