Mrs Turner joins the association from the WRAP charity where she has worked for 12 years in a variety of roles.

Most recently she has been involved in work on alternative funding streams and developing European partnerships in her roles as senior business development manager and head of new programmes. Prior to joining WRAP, she worked for ATS Euromaster in Birmingham where she was head of marketing and business development.

The new executive director succeeds Simon Dowson who is stepping down from the role. He explained that he wished to spend more time on his other work with schools, adding: “I wish Julia all the very best in her new post”.

In a statement, the WRA said that Mrs Turner will officially take up the role from October, but will attend the WRA’s autumn meeting next week in Birmingham “to introduce herself to members and hear about the organisation’s on-going work”.

Experience

Andy Hill, chair of the WRA and market development director at Suez, said: “Julia brings a wealth of experience to the WRA from her time working at WRAP where she has facilitated the development of end markets for the wood sector, realised new funding opportunities and managed key stakeholder relationships.

“We are delighted she is joining us, especially at a time when the WRA is growing. Julia will play a key role in helping us to develop the Association going forward and in continuing our on-going work, including talking to the Environment Agency about its FPP guidance on behalf of our members.”

Mrs Turner said: “I am really looking forward to working with the vibrant wood recycling industry again to help what is already a highly professional trade association move to the next level and to take advantage of the opportunities on offer to it. I am also looking forward to meeting the members next week.”
