Investigation at plastics recycling plant following fatality

The police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out an investigation at a plastics recycling factory in Glasgow after an employee was killed in machinery there last week.

Andrew John Bain, 39, died last week (15/04/03) after suffering fatal injuries at the Surface Control plant in Grangemouth. Mr Bain, who was from Stirling, had been a supervisor at the plant. He was killed after becoming trapped in machinery he had been operating in the workshop.

The plant, which employs 19 staff, was immediately shut down. It has now reopened, but the machinery under investigation is out of service.

Surface Control is part of the family-run Snowie Group. Managing Director Malcolm Snowie, said: “Andy was a valued and very popular member of staff who will be sadly missed by all his colleagues. Naturally our sympathy and thoughts are very much with his wife and family.”
