Jerry Cranmer, West Dorset's strategy and contracts manager told letsrecycle.com said he would contest the view that the approach to the contract was not rigorous. “Members felt it was rigorous or they wouldn't have gone ahead with it.”
He said the council provides the cheapest service for a rural area in England. “We have a cheap and cheerful service. We are going to find a way to meet recycling targets but it has got to be cost-effective.”
The authority, added Mr Cranmer, is also preparing a Best Value plan for the authority's waste service which is currently at draft stage.
Currently the authority has net costs per year of 70,000 for recycling which stands at 10% and is achieved through 76 high density banks.
