Inquiry underway into fatality at Atlantic Recycling

An investigation is underway into a fatal incident which occurred yesterday (4 September) at the premises of Atlantic Recycling in Rumney, South Wales.

A man at the site died in what was reported to the police as a collision between a worker and a plant vehicle.

The incident occurred at the premises of Atlantic Recycling in Rumney, Cardiff

South Wales Police confirmed that a “58-year-old man from Barry has died following a collision at the Atlantic Waste Recycling Plant in Cardiff. Emergency services attended the site at around 4.30pm yesterday.”

South Wales Police added that HM Coroner have been informed and that it is carrying out an investigation in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive. The police also noted that there have been no arrests.

Works vehicle

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Wednesday 4 September at approximately 16:12 to reports of collision between a works vehicle and a pedestrian in Rumney near Cardiff. We responded with two rapid response vehicles, one emergency ambulance, one ambulance officer and one volunteer doctor and we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance.”

David Neal, director of Atlantic Recycling, said: “We can confirm that there was a serious accident on the Atlantic site at approximately 4pm Wednesday 4 September.

“There is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the HSE so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

Atlantic Recycling was formed in 2006 and is involved in a range of activities largely involving trade and commercial waste as well as providing processing support for local authorities with civic amenity sites.
