The name change sees the company, which is based at a site at Darlaston, near Walsall, become more closely aligned with its parent group Ecobat, which has operations across Europe.
Ecobat says that it hopes the name change will present a “more unified face to the market”. G&P Batteries was acquired by Ecobat Technologies in 2005, which describes itself as the world’s largest producer and recycler of lead.
At the Darlaston site, G&P sorts automotive, industrial and portable batteries. The site features an automated sorting line for portable batteries. Around 80 people are employed within the business, which has a fleet of 25 vehicles.

Alongside G&P, Ecobat’s operations in the UK include BLM British Lead, Matlock based lead smelter HJ Enthoven & Sons and the battery importer and distributor Manbat. Other facilities are operated by the business in Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Italy.
Ecobat is seeking to establish its ‘One Call Collection’ service across Europe, to direct customers to compliant collection and safe storage and handling of their waste batteries.
Commenting on the re-branding, UK commercial director Tom Seward said: “It is this proven UK business model we are seeking to replicate across Europe with the creation of our new pan-European brand and we are very excited to be sharing our expertise with others in the Ecobat group.
“This will allow us to present a unified face to the market when contracting with pan European businesses for the collection of batteries, for example vehicle manufacturers and other similar businesses. It will be particularly important as we move in to the hybrid and electric vehicle market, which we see as a significant part of our future.”
