The 12-month agreement, which will begin in January 2018, is the latest in a line of contract wins for the Norwegian-owned secondary fuels specialist.
From its source in the UK, Geminor will manage baled RDF haulage across the North Sea to the company’s shipping terminal at Gothenburg Harbour. From here, bales will be broken, with loose material loaded onto specialist vehicles and transported to the Renova facility.

Prior to entering the furnaces, RDF will be sorted and inspected to remove any remaining metals or contaminants, explained the company. Finally, the material will be recovered into renewable energy and exported directly to the Gothenburg district heating network.
Renova Group is an international stakeholder and strategic investor in a number of companies which operate across range of sectors, including energy.
The Group’s waste-to-energy plant at Sävenäs in Gothenburg uses incineration of waste for the production of heating and electricity. According to Renova’s website, around 300 trucks deliver waste to the plant on a daily basis.

According to its website, Geminor in the UK cooperates with more than 70 facilities for energy recovery of RDF, SRF, waste wood, bio fuels from garden waste and hazardous waste.
In August, Geminor announced a “major contract” with Hull city council to manage municipal solid waste (see letsrecycle.com story).
As part of the agreement, which is for an initial seven-year term, waste will be refined into RDF at Geminor’s waste processing facility which will be co-located with the ‘state-of-the-art’ Energy Works (Hull) Ltd gasification facility, where the RDF will be recovered.
