Humble beginnings (2016)
It all started with an idea around kitchen table… in early 2016, now director, Emma Lavelle had an idea to bring back the Lavelle family name to the waste industry. Managing director and serial entrepreneur Craig Lavelle, backed his daughters Emma’s idea and the rest is history. Starting with a blank canvas, no customers, no vehicles and a truck load of enthusiasm for service, the journey began. A yard was shortly found and two trucks ordered. The business steadily grew and another family member joined the business after graduating from university, Emma’s younger brother Sam. No job was too big or too small. Emma and Sam were often out delivering wheelie bins to customers sites and fleet manager Andy Tickle was juggling office duties whilst driving and operating a small fleet of vehicles. Operating on a smaller scale allowed the company to build a solid reputation for reliability, laying the groundwork for future growth. In those early days, the business relied on determination, hard work, and strong local relationships to establish itself in a competitive industry.
Building momentum
As demand for high-quality waste services grew, Lavelle Waste Services responded by steadily expanding its operations. Year by year, the company invested in additional vehicles, equipment, and people – ensuring it could meet increasing customer needs without compromising on service quality.
This gradual but focused expansion saw the fleet grow from just one vehicle to an impressive 30+ vehicle fleet – a clear reflection of sustained business growth and strong client demand. Alongside this, the workforce expanded to more than 60 dedicated staff members, each contributing to the company’s success and reputation.
Expanding the footprint: Chorley site (2023)
A major milestone in the company’s journey came in 2023, when Lavelle Waste Services Ltd opened its second operational site in Chorley. This strategic move marked a significant step forward, allowing the business to:
- Increase operational capacity;
- Improve service coverage across the region;
- Enhance responsiveness to customer needs;
- Support continued business growth.
The Chorley site not only strengthened the company’s logistical capabilities but also reinforced its long-term commitment to expansion and service excellence. The depot opened with a fleet of 2 vehicles, which has quickly grown to 10 vehicles servicing our customers north of Manchester.
A new chapter: Head office move to Bolton (2025)
In 2025, Lavelle Waste Services reached another key moment in its development with the relocation of its Greater Manchester head office from Farnworth to a new four acre site in Bolton. This move symbolised more than just a change of address – it represented the company’s evolution into a larger, more established organisation.
The new headquarters provides a central hub for operations, administration, and strategic planning, supporting the company’s continued growth and enabling it to operate more efficiently at scale. The new move has also allowed the company to grow its recycling operation, with the introduction of a new automatic baler.
A landmark financial milestone
As Lavelle Waste Services celebrates its 10th anniversary this month, it marks a defining financial milestone for the business: achieving over £10,000,000 in annual turnover.
Reaching this level of revenue before a decade in operation is a testament to the company’s sustained growth, strong leadership, and the trust it has built with its customers. From its single-vehicle beginnings to a multi-site operation with a substantial fleet and workforce, this achievement highlights the success of a carefully executed growth strategy.
