Waste management firm Oran Environmental Solutions (OES) Ltd is due to be sentenced next month for repeatedly breaching license conditions at its former Carron Works waste transfer station in Falkirk.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) had received a number of complaints from members of the public regarding issues with flies, gulls and rats because of the transfer station, and later reported the company to the Procurator Fiscals Office.

And, at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Monday (August 18), OES Ltd was found guilty of carrying out site operations in a manner which didnt minimise the presence of insects, birds and vermin between July and December 2012.
The Grangemouth-based company was also found guilty of storing non-putrescible and un-segregated waste awaiting treatment beyond the licensed seven-day period between July and September 2012. Sentencing for the two charges was deferred until September 30 2014.
SEPAs reporting officer, Susan Shirley, said: By continually failing to address the recurring issues of pest control, Oran Environmental Solutions Limited has disrupted the lives of many local residents. In addition, the company allowed waste to remain on site beyond the timescale limit specified in the licence.
SEPA will always seek to work with operators to help them achieve compliance, however for those who repeatedly breach licence conditions, enforcement action is inevitable.
Todays result hopefully reinforces the importance of compliance to the waste industry as a whole, while serving as a reminder that SEPA will pursue any operators who breach environmental legislation in this way.
