The emergency services were called at 8.30 this morning and Cleveland Police, the Great North Air Ambulance and the North East Ambulance Service attended the scene.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson told letsrecycle.com: “Police received a report of an incident at Ward Recycling on Windermere Road, Hartlepool, just after 8.30am today.
“Sadly, a 35-year-old man suffered serious injuries and he died at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident and a joint investigation will take place with the Health and Safety Executive.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Health and safety
Cleveland Police said it would conduct a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive, which had already been contacted.
An HSE spokesperson told letsrecycle.com: “HSE was contacted by Cleveland Police this morning regarding an incident at Ward Recycling and are liaising with them at this stage. HSE inspectors are attending site today.”
Ambulance
An air ambulance was also in attendance at the industrial estate on Windermere Road earlier today.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson told letsrecycle.com: “We were called at 8.29am to an incident in Windermere Road, Hartlepool.
“We dispatched a specialist paramedic, a clinical care manager, a double-crewed ambulance and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance.”
Paper
Ward Recycling’s paper fibre sorting facility opened in May 2019 (see letsrecycle.com story).
The plant anticipated handling around 100,000 tonnes of source separated paper and card and mixed fibre from commingled collections, paper, cardboard and magazines each year.
Established in 2002, Ward Recycling Limited also operates a materials recycling facility (MRF) and glass recycling plant, and offers kerbside collections.
