M Collard, which predominantly runs a skip hire and waste removal service, has been trading in Berkshire and Surrey for around 40 years, and is owned by Mick Collard, the father of R Collard managing director Robert Collard.

The acquisition will give R Collard a ‘greater range of products’, the company has claimed, as well as expanding its geographical reach into Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey – beyond its existing base in Reading, Basingstoke, Farnham and Farnborough.
R Collard Ltd will now operate five licenced Waste Transfer Stations at Eversley, Aldershot, Bramshill, Farnham and Reading, assimilating the business, assets and goodwill of M Collard into its existing operations.
Growth
The move has also increased its number of skips operated by the firm to 2,000 and boosts its HGV fleet to 98, all of which will be co-ordinated from R Collard’s customer contact centre in Eversley. Staff from M Collard will relocate to a new office block at Eversley which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2016.
Acquisition of M Collard continues the strategy of ‘sustained investment in equipment and workforce’, R Collard has claimed.
Commenting on the acquisition, Robert Collard, said: “This step is of enormous significance to me. I started my career working for my father and at the age of 23 set up on my own. We have always been hugely respectful of each other’s businesses and being based so near to each other has complimented and built on the Collard name to create a significant brand that customers can trust to give an efficient and reliable service.
“This move allows me to expand into my father’s territory with his blessing. The expansion suits my company’s long term strategy to be the major regional waste management company for the M3/M4 corridor and this addition to our business gives us the expanded trading base we were looking for.”
In recent years R Collard has invested significantly in operations with the opening of a 100,000 tonnes per year demolition waste MRF at the Eversley site in 2014 (see letsrecycle.com story) and a £2 million aggregate wash plant in June 2015 (see letsrecycle.com story). The wash plant has an annual capacity of around 250,000 tonnes.
R Collard began trading in 1995 and handled close to 500,000 tonnes of waste material in 2015.
