The Earl, who is chairman of WINTO – the Waste Industry National Training Organisation said: “We have been waiting for too long for formal government recognition and have decided to go ahead with the appointment of a chief executive as we think that the industry needs WINTO.”
The Earl’s comments came as he revealed that Tony Hirons has been appointed as WINTO chief executive. Mr Hirons is taking up the post after only a few months heading up the Energy from Waste Association which promotes construction of energy from waste plants. His departure comes as the association is to be merged within the broader Environmental Services Association.
And, the Earl, who is chairman of WINTO – the Waste Industry National Training Organisation, added: “We very much hope that recognition of WINTO by the government will now be rapidly forthcoming – we have much to do.”
WINTO will build on the work that has been done by WAMITAB, which has helped to drive forward the whole area of certificates of technical competence and in-post and training and education in the Waste Industry as a whole.
Tony Hirons said: “It is a tremendous challenge which I thoroughly looking forward to. WINTO can only help the industry as a whole and is one of a number of similar movements which will increase the credibility of the profession.”
