For the first time, the Board features a representative from the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) in former chairman Lee Marshall.
Dr Philip Morton, chief executive of Repic, has not been reappointed – meaning that the UK's largest WEEE compliance scheme is not represented.
The WEEE Advisory Body was formed in December 2007 to help steer government policy on WEEE and provide independent advice on the development of the WEEE system following the implementation of the WEEE Directive in the UK.
The Body was originally formed with 13 members including representatives from producer compliance schemes, waste management firms and reuse organisations (see letsrecycle.com story).
Mr Lucas said: “The WEEE Advisory Body plays an important role advising government on waste electronics. These new appointments will further strengthen the WAB brining a new breadth of experience and knowledge.”
The new appointments are:

• Lee Marshall – senior manager (plicy and Waste), Powys county council
• Claudia Kuss-Tenzer – research and policy programme manager, Waste Watch
• Eddie Taylor – chief executive (strategy), Lighting Industry Federation

The Body met for the first time in April 2008 to discuss data reporting (see letsrecycle.com story) and has also formed into three sub-groups to look at the issues of immediate matters, such as the UK WEEE system, development matters, such as European Commission reviews and business-to-business issues, and also the issue of reuse.
The next quarterly meeting of the Body is scheduled for Thursday December 10 at the BIS Conference Centre in London.
