Founded in Sheffield in 2013, the business said the rebrand reflects its evolution over the past decade, having expanded through investment in recovery infrastructure, engineering capability and operational performance.
The launch follows a period of significant capital investment, including the completion of a £25 million programme at its Sheffield operations in 2024.
Alongside the rebrand, MATIQ has announced two major developments: the award of a new local authority contract with Bradford Council and progress on a £50 million materials recovery facility in Gateshead.
Bradford city recycling contract
The company has secured a contract with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council to receive and process co-mingled dry mixed recycling collected across the district.
The agreement will run until 31 March 2029, with the option of a one-year extension.
MATIQ said the contract strengthens its position in the local authority market and reflects increasing demand for “transparent and accountable” recovery services capable of delivering measurable environmental outcomes.
Anthony Holley, chief executive of MATIQ, commented: “The launch of MATIQ reflects both the scale of the business we have become and the opportunity that lies ahead.”
“The award of the Bradford contract and our investment at Gateshead are significant milestones in our growth, strengthening our position as a leading provider of advanced resource recovery infrastructure.
Gateshead MRF development
At the same time, MATIQ is progressing the development of its flagship materials recovery facility at Derwenthaugh Ecoparc in Gateshead.
Representing an investment of around £50 million, the company said the site will become the most advanced materials recovery facility in the UK once complete.
Located on the former Graphite Resources site, the facility is expected to significantly increase MATIQ’s processing capacity and act as a strategic recovery hub for local authority and commercial customers across the North East and further afield.
Matt Hartley, founder and chief operating officer of MATIQ, added: “It is a source of real pride to see what began as a small specialist metals operator in Sheffield in 2013 grow into the platform we have today.
“Our £25 million investment in Sheffield in 2024 laid the foundations for this next stage, and the scale of what we are now building at Gateshead reflects the strength of that foundation.
“This is just the next chapter in a story we are still writing, built on the same operational discipline that has defined us from day one.”
