Doncaster car recycler first to achieve CARE certification

Vehicle dismantler Doncaster Motor Spares has become the first authorised treatment facility to gain recognition from the CARE group for its Operational Management System.

The independent salvage dealer, based at Askern Road, Doncaster, achieved the international environmental standard ISO 14001:2004 using the CARE-approved operational management system as a “pathway”.

The Consortium for Automotive Recycling (CARE) has developed the operational management system with the Institute of Assessment & Certification. It certifies that waste treatment centres have demonstrated their commitment to providing a high level of service to a certain standard.

The company said this included a commitment to develop and improve the day-to-day operation of every aspect of the business, with particular emphasis on compliance with environmental legislation and quality of service to its customers.

Pride
Richard Martin, managing director at Doncaster Motor Spares, said: “We pride ourselves on being an environmentally focused business, and have put a lot of effort into achieving this standard.

“Our customers will take confidence in the fact that our status as a CARE OMS recognised operator reflects our on-going commitment, not only to the environment and ensuring full compliance with legislation, but ultimately to provide our customers with the best possible service,” Mr Martin said.

Tailored
Peter Stokes, chairman of the CARE Group, said the organisation had worked for months to develop an “off the shelf” route for authorised treatment facilities towards ISO certification.

He explained: “The systems need only to be tailored to the individual business, since the main development was carried out with ATFs and therefore the package reflects their type of businesses and circumstances. It’s great to see the work we put in, come to fruition and we look forward to more facilities adopting the OMS.”
